Vehicle Maintenance File and Schedule

49 CFR 396.3

Every carrier must systematically inspect, repair and maintain every vehicle under its control, and keep a record for each unit that identifies the vehicle, shows the nature and due date of the inspection and maintenance operations to be performed, and records the inspections, repairs and maintenance actually done. Records are kept where the vehicle is housed for one year, and for six months after the vehicle leaves the carrier's control.
