Medical Certificate and National Registry Verification

A driver may not operate a CMV without a current medical examiner's certificate (medical card) from an examiner listed on FMCSA's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. The two kinds of driver are handled differently: for a NON-CDL driver the carrier keeps a copy of the certificate and a note verifying the examiner's Registry listing; for a CDL driver, since June 23, 2025 the examiner sends the result to FMCSA and the state, so the carrier keeps the driver's motor vehicle record (CDLIS MVR) showing the medical certification status instead - obtained before the driver operates and again at each renewal.
